I see alot of people with a vast collection of flashlights, some of these are quite expensive. I must ask why have you guys decided to collect fancy flashlights? Do you need them for something or do you just like to collect them like you would collect coins?

Welcome to CPF, I found my interests in Flashlights and Coins when I joined the boy scouts as a kid, ever since then my Flashlight and Coin collection have just grown

Just before I entered this world of ours I saw the light.........ever since then I have been hooked :) Welcome to the forum and start saving.

I collect Watches, Knives and Flashlights as they give me joy and they are useful as well. Spending more money gets you better quality.

Hang around, this is a great forum

I came from a poor background in 3rd world country. In those day, we have constant power outage and mainly relying on an oil lamp at night. I was scared to death when neighbour's adolescent kept telling me about ghost stories. They claims to have witness ghost roaming the street in the dark. I can remember how terrified I was and it just happened that our toilet was at the back of our house with open top and no light. It is also there where the water tape is situated. I used to ran quickly to the back with half of my eyes closed so to have a drink. As for the other business I carried an oil lamp which was not bright. Since that time, I wishing for light and now I am in control of plenty lights :).

I blame it on the dark. :D I pretend I really need them all but really in my case I have way more than I'll ever use or need. So it probably is a bit like coins. I collect them too. :)

It started with a need for a quality tool, and I wanted the best I could get. Now I have a few sentimental lights, some with specific purposes, and a few collectables..

I don't have a huge collection, but i do like quality stuff.
and not only flashlights, but lots of other stuff as well (knives, computer stuff, other electronic gadgets, guns, everything to carry my stuff in, etc.).
so i just get the best i can afford, and do a lot of research before i decide to buy something.

I can't really explain it but I was impressed at the power, the brightness of these small things giving out so much light.I love the WOW I get every time someone first looks at my L1dce.It' like reliving my first look.

The 2003 blackout in the northeastern U.S., especially New York City. Folks were trapped in darkened elevators and had to negotiate darkened stairwells to escape tall buildings. I read a story afterwards about how having at least a button-cell LED on a key chain or a larger EDC flashlight made life easier for those who had them. From buying a button-cell light I progressed to discovering FlashlightReviews.com and started my "collection." I haven't gone overboard on flashlights but I see the practical value of having them for emergencies and every-day use.

The self-defense potential of carrying and using a light as a viable means of defense, even in places that put huge restrictions on self-defense tools. A mini-Mag makes an excellent kubaton. (Some say that it was originally designed to be used as such).

Then my 2nd light was an Inova X5. Works well with a hammer-fist.

But after that, I just really got into lights...

My interest in lights started as a kid in Scouts, and when the Photons came out. That interest faded through Jr. High as I got into knives more and more. I found EDC forums early on in it's life when JSB announced it at the Spyderco factory forum. EDC introduced me to quality flashlights, but I never really considered carrying one until the power went out during our spring musical. That one experience brought me back into reality, I got an Arc AAA and a Fenix L1T, and I haven't looked back since. Lights, like knives, are very cool tools that are both collectable and functional.

First off welcome to CPF.
I enjoy having them & knowing I'm not going to be in the dark. As you can see at the bottom I don't have many compared to others who post here. But I have a "couple" quality lights.

I think like most people; I just wanted a good flashlight. When I got here, I discovered there was more to flashlights then I thought. I'm glade I found CPF; now I don't have to bend to what's in the store and what manufacturers say. I can find my own answers.

Darkness and tacks from my posters I hung on my walls as a kid, they tended to fall out and I stepped on them about once a week.
