One of my favorite modders here on CPF is the great McGizmo.
I have followed his creations from day one of my CPF membership.

Although, over the past couple months I have seen him have some real compitition from the other up and comming modders here.
All of you do an amazing job. After many months of waiting, I finally got my lathe last night !!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif So, I hope to join the modders guild soon myself. I certainly have some really talented and creative people here for inperation.

I have a TON of ideas, and creations in the works. If I can accomplish half of them, I will be delighted.
One of the things I want to do is ask your input on what you the people would like to see. Such as adaptor, turbo heads for certain lights, etc.

OK, I have wondered off topic enough. To the point !
One of my all time favorite mods would have to be Gizmos 5W / 6 Nichia light .
Very creative, and very nicely done.

I would like to thank ALL the great modders and creators out there that have inspired me to TRY to follow in their footsteps.

jtice, ditto. this light is the coolest creation of the great Don yet. But I am sure he's not done yet ... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif
bernhard

P.S.: good luck with your new toy!

As you can tell, i'm not up on my history. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif

Ahm yes the squash light was.....really something. Hehe.

There are so many good machined lights around here but hands down my favoriteis the original McLux. I don't own one but WOW it is an incredibly beautiful light. (I can't believe I just called a flashlight beautiful but that's the best description I can come up with!)

jtice,

Thanks for the kind words but most important, cool on your new lathe!!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I hope it can give you hours of satisfaction as well as allow you to "do it your way"!

Don,

Thanks alot. Yea I think I will be very happy with it, soon as I learn a few things. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Erm yes...small oversight on my part heh.

I'm with you on the McT Plus (I think that's what Don calls it). The switching mechanism is pure inspiration.

I like the down and dirty DD mods Mr Bulk is so famous for as well.

The ultimate modder's challenge; and all the great modders seem to be able to do it, is to take an LED and surround it with a custom case and switching mechanism. The great mods tend to be functional for the intended illumination purpose and also be pleasing to the eye and easy in the hand.

I'd say learn from the masters by perhaps copying a few mods and then Definately go your own way. A big challenge will be getting a professional finish on your mods. Highly polished metals that are unprotected don't stay that way for long. Learn all you can about surface finish technology. That is the key to having superb mods. With less than a dozen notable modders here on CPF (from what I can see) you have the chance to join a pretty small club. Go for it!

Some of my favs:
McL4
McLux PR
PM6 Mod Series
LSN Larry Light
Tri-Star 3X3
X5T-Cheiftain
PK-1

Jtice, just to pick a few lights that I think are cool and just counting complete lights made from scratch:

- Original LL123 (basis of Firefly)

- Pocket Penny (very crude 1x123 light that showed that making
one's own lights was within reach of more of us than I'd thought)

- Titanium nitride McLux with engraved pocket clip

- McGizmo's LED lantern with the 2 watt Nichia

- LSN

- d'mo's watchband light from a few days ago

- Photon King PK1

The basic pattern is I like lights that show innovative approaches and I like lights with artful visual design. I like your design sense (and your photography) a lot so I'm looking forward to seeing some nice lights from you.

Light I'd like to see: a rechargeable LED light designed from the ground up to use an 18650 lithium ion cell, or whatever the standard big cell used in computer packs is. It would be about the size of an SF 6P and would have a McLux-type head (BB converter board and Luxeon III), and charge contacts outside the light for use in a charging stand (modded Maha 777 or whatever) including a temperature sense pin, so you'd charge the battery without having to remove it from the light. Maybe this could be implemented as a new battery tail for the existing McLux heads.

Mag 2c with Madmax WO running a Cyan Luxeon on a sheet copper heatsink I soldered together. The damn thing is blinding green with wicked throw for a 1 watt led.

Thanks alot paulr,

I doubt i will be cranking out anything super cool, or to the high standards that the awsome modders have done here. Not for a few months anyway.
There are a few neat little ideas I have, some are thinggs very similar to what has been done alreay, but I also plan to try to be as inovative as posssible, and try to do alot of things that have not been done yet.

I think one of the funnest things will be, making turbo heads, and making lights from scratch.
I am actually surprised I don't see more people on here making more lights from scratch. i KNOW alot of them could pull it off.
I have a few lights I have designed,,, but, they always end up looking similar to the Mclux. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
