I've got two single mode dropins from this DX flashlight. I'd like to replace the driver with something that has 3 modes, but I don't know which ones to look at. I'd like a LOW low mode, like 1L and the other modes can be 20L and 150L or similar. I'm not sure what driver would match up with the emitters in my dropins that also work with 1x18650 and can provide the levels I'm looking for. Also, DX says it's an R2 emitter but is it XP-E or XR-E?

Based on the picture, it's an XR-E.

If Shiningbeam gets the L-Mini II drivers back in stock, those are great 3-mode drivers that work great with the XR-E R2 and 17670/18650 (2.8-5.5v).
The low is not as low as you'd like though - I'm not sure of any 3-mode driver that goes that low.

I think I'm confused... I thought R2, R4, R5, etc was the bin and XP-E, XR-E, XP-G, etc was the emitter model.

Shiningbeam has this one in stock, but I don't know if it's the L-mini II driver. It does 60mA on low though. I have the Thrunite XP-G 3-mode and measuring from the tail I get 10-19 mA on low, 300mA on medium and 1.2A on high. It's interesting because this is supposedly the 1.4A dropin from them and I doubt it could lose 200mA to inefficiency, can it?. My DMM doesn't have enough resolution to tell exactly how much though. I'd actually like a bit lower low than that, but they're different emitters with different efficiencies. I don't know anything about that though.

Oops...brain fart. I updated my post. It's an XR-E.

No, that's not the L-Mini II driver.

In a P60, that driver on high would most likely kill the XR-E.

I use the driver you linked to with XP-G R4 and R5 emitters....lot's of light :D

R2 is slang for XR-E R2.....There is no XPG or XPE "R2" from what I understand.
I'm pretty sure that the early releases of XP-G lights had R2s in them.
There are lights currently available with XP-E R2s in them (for example Quarks and iTP A2 EOS).

According to some reviews of the L-mini II the low mode is around 15L or so which is much higher than I'd like. It's too bad too since it looks like a great driver. Maybe I'll get one and use it in a different light, I've got 5 L2 hosts already.

The hunt continues...

What about the Quark lights? They have a moon <1L mode and then a 4L low mode that I really like for a nightstand light. Is there any way to transplant that driver into a p60 module?
