Was wondering as you guys in this section are the experts on buying the budget brands which do you buy most often?

I buy the big shed lights from Tesco/Aldi etc and always pleased with my purchases plus Sol-Leks got me trying a Romisen which I totally enjoy.

May dip my toe in your waters and try another make.

I think I would like the budget version of the Fenix LD10R

With budget lights it seems more like a series or individual lights that are really good. In other words, usually the brands aren't entirely consistent when it comes to designing lights; they can sell some really nice lights, but also some that aren't good at all. Just a few of the well-known budget lights:

Romisen
Kai RQ
Akoray k-109 programmable
iTP EOS series
Solarforce

I currently own 4 Solarforce lights 2xL2, a L2M and a L2r. I can see myself buying more.

Romisen and iTP
All of mine are AA or AAA and all are great

ITP A3 (I've bought 5) ,ITP SA2 (My favorite light), iTP A2 (my current EDC)
Romisen RC-N3 ,RC-29(Very cool light) ,RC-G2 ( The best small WOW light I own)

I agree that it is usually individual lights and not brands when it comes to budget, but as others have said solarforce romisen and itp are quite respected.

One other light I find myself buying fairly frequently is the MXDL AAA penlight with clicky. Authoshop 8810 sells them on ebay and I think they sell them on KD but I'm not positive. They look the same at any rate and have the same name. It makes a great night table or desk light and is also a nice giveaway light, especially at 2 bucks.

There's also the Lumapower Incendio V3 XP-G. I realize it's not totally "budget", but it's certainly less than most quality company's equivalents (currently $50).

I no longer buy lights often but the last 3 lights I got are 4sevens Preon 2 WARMS, Quark Mini AA WARMS and Quark Mini AA2. From $37 to $43.

Thanks for the replies so far but I think I have not explained myself properly(my fault).

I forgot to state that normally I buy branded lights such as Fenix/Itp/Nitecore etc.

The real budget lights I buy are the likes of the shed stuff and that what I was getting at something good and really budget that are better than many give credit for.

Part of the problem may be that many of us (me) don't know what you are referring to when you say "the shed stuff". Is this the same as saying the cheap lights available locally at department or hardware stores?

If so, I don't buy those lights as the budget DX kind of lights have taken over that role for me.

Yes you are correct, close out stores and offers etc from the department stores etc.

It's a good question (IMO) by the way. Since led lights are improving all the time I'm sure the lights I ignore locally will soon be all I need!

That creates 3 problems.

Brands available elsewhere are not necessarily available in the UK. Dorcy for instance.
Only UK based members can help.
Most of the lights are probably clearance items and may no longer be available by the time it is posted.

There is a thread in CPFMP called Canada Good Deals where members list good deals they see in sales ads and come across in stores both major chains, discount chains and clearance chains. Maybe you can start a similar UK Good Deals thread over there.

I don't think I can help so I am unsubscribing from this thread.

I've purchased some nice lights from Rayovac, Energizer, River Rock, Mag and Dorcy. I would have to say that Dorcy does the best job bringing some decent torches to market.

I just posted something about an alternative for the X2000

Surefire 6P with different hosts. Budget? Well, compared with other SF lights, they are on a budget. And just in case one part of the light gets damaged beyond use, I can replace that particular part and still use the rest - more budgetfriendly than buying a complete new light. :grin2:

Ultrafire C3 - I own quite a few of them. The Q5 versions are very good. the stainless steel ones are good if they are 93mm long.

Powerlight - search DX. Long runtime but not hugely bright.

Various eBay cheapies which are great for giving away at less than a dollar a shot. The MDXL "3W" one with a particularly wide beam for a dollar is a good deal and runs forever.

The Lumahunter MRV SE clone is an excellent deal for a good thrower at under $20.

I keep coming back to Romisens for budget lights...especially the Shiningbeam custom versions.

The Solarforce L2 series seems to be a great value for P60 (Surefire-style) drop-ins. The range of battery choices and drop-ins is very impressive, and plenty of up-market pieces are available for future upgrading.
