GMT isn't the standard anymore. The standard is UTC Coordinated Universal Time), which is the atomic clock time.
It's strange, but the time is still based on GMT, in that they add or subtract time periodically to reset UTC to solar time's lack of precision. Of course with the original GMT standard being based on solar time, it's like the atomic clock standard gives a nod of obeisance to Greenwich.
