well i like both of them.
i now have 3 l2d ce's and can't tell much difference between the three except for the tint on the rebel being more like my car headlights and less like an led.

so, maybe i'll recharge all these batteries and double check while walking the dog, but i can't decide for myself right now.

which one should i keep.
if the q5 really is 5 lumens brighter but the rebel has a better runtime, maybe i'll stick with the rebel? not for two min longer, but a reasonable efficency advantage?

which one should i keep, and which one should i sell,
besides the old faithful l2d ce p4 (which holds it own)

Rubberband all three together and see how you like 400 lumens.

when my p2d q5 arrived, i compared it with my rebel 100. i decided to keep the rebel since it has a better tint and much more pleasing to the eyes when in use. even though its a few lumens lower, i noticed that i could distinguish objects better with the warmer led of the rebel than with the cree.

I am in the same situation, I have a L2D CE (P3) and a L2D RB100 and thought of the Q5. Changed the L2D CE to a L1D CE single AA to make a smaller sized light and kept the Rebel at 2AA.

To prevent myself from purchasing the Q5 model, I figure I want one with a T1 head running 2AA. Maybe when it becomes available it will run an R bin to really get things moving.

Sell the original L2D CE, convert the Q5 to 1AA and enjoy both lights. If you really can't decide, send me the RB100 and Q5 so I can make the choice for you. :D

i keep all of them. Rubberband the light and use it :)

if i were you i would keep the rebel version, i like the tint over the Q5 version.

ok, i like it.
i've been thinking of what to do and this was one of my ideas but seeing it in writing and as an opinion of a fellow cpf'er really validates it.
i'm keeping the rebel100 as a 2aa
finding a 1d body for the q5 and running it on 14500s
selling the 'old' l2d

thanks alot, i sure love getting good input like this and no "search button comments"
had i "searched" i would have never come across these opinions.
thanks again.

I prefer the REBEL 100 tint compare to the q5
I`m very happy with the Rebel p3d 100.

I wish they make an EDC light as tough as the Novatac and yet as small as the P1D CE fenix with 200+ lumen REBEL.

I prefer the tint on my Rebel 100 L2D over my Q5 L2D. But the big difference for me is the silky smooth beam quality out of the Rebel 100. I don't like the ring around the hotspot on my Q5. For me it was a no brainer on the Q5 or the Rebel 100, I kept the Rebel 100 and sent the Q5 to my father.

Same for me, I have the P2D in original Cree, the Rebel 100 and now the Q5 Cree.....The Rebel has the best beam and is slightly wider overall compared to the Cree's.....I gave the Rebel to my wife and kept the Q5 for myself....such is life.....

I have the Rebel 100 version and I'd vote to keep that one.

My main reason - the Q5 seems to perform at its top potential in a 2xCR123A formfactor (or rechargeable equivalent). So you'll eventually get something like that with a Q5, so why have both lights in the same LED. (I am waiting to receive the Fenix T1).

Plus, the beam of the Rebel 100 is just absolutely gorgeous and well suited indoors, the Q5 with a bigger reflector will do its best outdoors, where any CREE-type ring artifacts will dissapear from view.

I think that is a good setup.

Went back and read this review Selfbuilt did, here. Look at the output stats. The L1D RB100 has the same output of the L1D Q5, but the RB100 has almost 45 minutes more runtime. Too bad the RB100s are all gone. I guess Philips didn't produce enough?

So far all of the previous posts are all for the RB100.

From what I've heard we may not see more Fenix lights with Rebels in them, unless larger quantities of Rebel's become available. So they are more unique. I think my Rebel100 has a great tint and better color rendering than my Cree's. I won't be getting rid of mine. :)

the q5 seems a little brighter though, and the beam has a smoother transition from hotspot to spill, like i'm lighting up a wall of light, but not losing out on the throw.
