Why is there even a reverse clicky?

I prefer forward clicky and so do 99% of the people I know. The ability to press the button a little and get a flash of light without having to turn it on and off is a big plus.

So, why does the reverse even exist? It is just one more thing to have to learn to avoid. Is there any advantage to it?
 
The only practical reason I see, is when changing modes. Just a light push instead of off, and back on.

Forward clickies rule for single mode lights, but imho they aren't useful at all for multi mode lights.
 
They are easier and generally cheaper to make. They are also believed to be more reliable than forward or tactical clickies.
 
I like to switch modes with a Forward Clicky, after you find the mode you want by tapping the swtich, you can lock it in with a full click.

Using a Reverse Clicky, sometimes ill bump it and be treated to some disco.I like being able to lock into the mode I want.

I think some lights use the Reverse Clicky because it takes up less room .. (4Sevens Preon for example)

that^ and i also like a reverse clicky or twisty when pocket carrying.

Right, less likely to accidentally come on when pocket carrying...although I'm not sure how big of a problem this really is... :shrug:

Is it really that much harder to change modes with a forward clicky? So you have to press fully once, let up, do half presses if necessary to get the mode you want, fully click to lock. Doens't seem that complicated to me.

On the other hand, choosing a mode when you first turn it on seems easier to me: half presses till you get the mode you want, then a full click to lock.
 
I like both, but for very different reasons:

I prefer reverse clicky for hiking. Just that much simpler to get a little more light when you see a mud hole as wide as the trail

Forward clicky is better for the bigger "what's that in the bush" moments, but my forward clicky lights are actual tactial lights... no messing around multimodes and no disco-skuns heading your way :sick2: (the worst I can think of is a bear running for his lunch under SOS lighting.... :ohgeez:)
 
Reverse clickies are better for edc use and for carrying in a backpack because they are much harder to accidently turn on. They are easier to change modes on multilevel lights. For backpacking, a reverse clicky light with multiple settings is about the only way to go (for me anyway) for a primary flashlight. Twisties are great for low level single mode backups. Forward clickies are good for single level high powered lights as long as they lock out. For a primary light backpacking, a high powered single setting light with a forward clicky is nearly useless as it doesn't have the runtime required and is too bright for 95% of the tasks. I'd rather use the turbo mode on a Fenix light when needed than also carry a single level high powered light with a forward clicky that will add the weight of another light.
 
My lights for bike riding HAVE to be a reverse clicky - there is no way I want to switch a light OFF to change modes whilst in the middle of a dark road or bombing down a dark off road track.
