I thought this post might also be interesting outside of the D-mini thread, so I hope it's OK that I repost it here. Anyway, I like to carry the nice lights, but most of the time, I only have to use them for short durations. Additionally, I have a fear of scratching or scuffing them up somehow.

I was actually using this light with the case on, just un-Velcro-ing the end. Then today, I came up with this solution – a soft plastic windowed case that attaches to the belt with the "typical" single point swivel used on many cell phone cases.

If the concept wasn't so easy to copy, I'd trying marketing it myself, but since that sounds implausible at the present time, here you go.

Great idea. It may be more durable if you were to make the window smaller, it's not necessary to expose the whole lens to see if the light is on.

I reread your post and I get it now you use the light whilst it is still in the case, so I guess my reply is wrong. I initialy thought you just wanted to see if the light was on.

Yeah, I knew the swivel part was nothing new, but the hole with the soft plastic window (like some cell phone cases) was a neat point of difference. Being able to close it protects the light better too. The trick was to use a ballistic nylon type case and heat up a flashlight size metal tube and cut out the hole as with a cookie cutter. The heat cuts (melts) and seals the edges of the nylon and keeps it from fraying. The soft plastic window material was cannibalized from an old cell phone case I had laying around.
