Australia is almost Europe! I got one light from James without a problem, one from another seller as well.

I know about the potential problems, there need not be any problem, when Data sells the light new, it's officially worth 100$ and the worth decreases when you sell second-hand... :whistle:

I also sold my Spy005 to a buyer in Germany who received it without any trouble. I guess I can't make any guarantees about customs charges/etc. on the receiving end, though.

outside Europe to Germany, i received several lights. But there is
one problem, i have to pay 25% customs fees here in Germany. :shakehead

So i dont have have the money to spend over 200$ just for the customs! :eek:

The last (custom) light I was to receive was declared 500$ on the customs form. I had no idea why the seller did that, he probably wanted to write 50,0$ or he was drunk or whatever. So, I phoned to Customs and told them I had no invoice, because I traded the lights against another with the sender of the parcel. The customs officer explained to me what I already knew, that there are no trades for customs, just as no "gifts", that everything has a value and that I have to pay taxes on that value. Nice theory lesson, let's move to practice!

He asked me how much the value of the light was. I said I didn't know exactly as it was a trade, but that such custom lights have a somewhat high value however, that they sell around 100$ usually. He had a look at the light and agreed he thought it was not worth 500$ and that I should write them an attestation for their files. I did that, faxed it directly, the bill will be exactly 10,51 € as I only have to pay VAT, Luxembourg has a free limit up to 150 € for private imports. So, the taxes I have to pay are not much more than what the custom officer spent for the flashlight in the trunk of his car! :D

Sorry for the OT, I just wanted to share the experience... :rolleyes: I have to admit that I knew the custom officer was not a flashaholic, the other Luxembourger on CPF would have told me on the phone if it was him!!! :crackup:

Is there no threshold value below which you don't have to pay customs in Germany? Like 20 Euros, for instance.

You could just ask the seller to value the light for this value on the customs form in that case.

Sure this is a possibility.
But today the customs want to see a proof of value.
This can be a print of an Ebay auction or a print of a Paypal transaction.

And finally the insurance value cannot be higher than the declared value, so in the case of a lost parcel you just get back 20 Euro ;)

I realize this, but its a calculated risk.

If you add up all the customs fees saved by doing this for all expensive lights imported against any money lost from non-deliveries,
which comes out on top? For me, I know. :tinfoil:

If the light costs much less than i have no problem paying this custom fees,
but if the light costs 900$ i dont want to pay 225$ fees.:thumbsdow

The SPY007 is one of the best light ever made in my eyes.
It is small, bright, looks very nice, has a long runtime and one of the best userinterfaces.

No, I will never sell mine :)
