I am looking to get a LE made and I was wondering which of the two boards would be more efficient at say 500mA.
Looking at the specs they almost look identical.
I will be running which ever one on a R123 or Pila. Both charge up to the same 4.2v.

Thanks

The wiz will give you the constant current output regardless of the Vf of the LED and will shut down at 2.5V even if the battery fails to shut off, to the best of my knowledge. If you are not going to use a two level switch or if you don't mind a bright lower level, the wiz2 is really designed for your application!

THe NG500 would be better with the second low level (if an issue) but if the Vf of the LED is low, you will possibly see a higher light output than the 500 mA from a fresh cell as Vin could start above the "ceiling" allowed by the NG driver. Of course a CR123 would also be fine with the NG but you have not stated any plans of using one. JMHO

I think th BB could damage the un protected Li-ions where the wiz2 wouldn't.At least thats What I'm banking on /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Jeff,

If you're going the Li-ion route, go with the Wiz2. It'll give you regulation with the li-ion cell and can be run on 2X123, if you so choose. With a low Vf luxeon, NG50, and li-ion, it may fry the converter, although I haven't seen that happen yet.

Thanks all.
Will one have a longer run time than the other?
