XR-19 Ti-PD Thoughts??

I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of my light, but in the meantime, would gladly settle for reading thoughts/reactions from anyone whose XR-19 Ti-PD has been delivered. Inquiring minds want to know!

If it is true that familiarity breeds contempt, then you are headed toward a very contemptuous relationship with the XR-19 Ti-PD.

I have an XR-19 Ti-PD because I swapped the head of my XR19-C with the
body of my Ti-PD.

It obviously feels and looks almost exactly the same as the Ti-PD, except
the head is slightly longer, has more flutes and has a longer reflector and
a different led.

The low is more or less the same, but the high is virtually as bright as my
KL4 - so I'd say its nearly 100 lumens.

The beam is similar to the Ti-PD except there is less contrast between the
hotspot and the spill because the spill is a lot brighter.

Glad to hear that the low level looks about the same, since that was a useful brightness for its intended purposes. How is the tint vs the Luxeon? And is there much tint shift between low and high with the Cree?

My cree tint is a bit warmer than the UXOK but still very acceptable.
However from what I've heard there's quite a wide range of tints.

There is a shift from warmer to less warm (from low to high), but
its not any more noticeable than the luxeon shift to my eyes.

Mine has a slightly warmer tint compared with a cree mounted aleph 19 that I have, which looks slightly purplish in the comparison. I would liken the Ti XR-19 PDs tint to that of a WO luxeon tint whereas the Aleph would rate an XO on the luxeon scale IMO. Also the hotspot is narrower than that of my other PDs, as is the nature of the A-19 head. Also common to the A-19 head is the tendency for the hotspot to have a bright core with a sizeable corona. Overall the hotspot/corona takes up about 40% of the diameter of the beam.
Also the Ti XR-19 PD fits very nicely in my Art Of The Hide holster that I bought from Matt for my other PDs. I do like this Flashlight!

I'm liking my XR19-PD a lot. I think the piston wins out over the clickie.

Tint is very close to that on my XR19-C. Warmer than my other XR-Es.
I don't have any McLuxeons to compare the tint with those.

Mine is my first Ti PD. Two things I really like are the more and longer fluting on the head makes it much easier to grip, and the feel of the PD activation is exceptional. I recall a comment some time back that there was a change to the piston drive of some sort but didn't pay much attention. Whatever it was, it really worked - it's far, far nicer than any Al I've used.

I'm waiting for my first ti pd i know pd stands for piston drive, but i have no clue how it works ,cant wait to find out, just hope i dont break it,trying.

TITAN1833, the piston is a 2-stage, momentary contact switch. When the flashlight is off, push the piston a little way for momentary low level light, and further for high level. If you have turned on the flashlight continuously by turning the head for low output, you can push in the piston for momentary high output - great!
Because the plunger is slightly recessed from the back edge of the PD (which allows standing up on a flat surface), it is not so useful as a tactical switch as it is harder to find and actuate as compared to an external tactical switch. I also found that you really have to push in deep to turn on the high level, and this is a bit difficult if you are not holding the light just right. Adjusting Kilroy may help this, but I have not tried to do that.
Finally, on mine the low level output has quite a bit of blue tint, but on high - wow, very nice, white, and bright. For this size of flashlight with a smallish head, the output and beamspread is perfect. A great light with outstanding illumination out to about 50 feet, diminishing utility beyond. There is a lot of technology in this light, and it is built like a tank out of all the best parts and materials. Now I know what all the fuss is about! Quite simply, outstanding!

After trying out the 4 different combos of the McLuxIII-Ti lights I settled for the C-Pack with S27 head and the XR19 head on the PD pack.
This is a very nice combo ... almost as small as the Ti-PD ... and quite bright with a very pleasant beam. Basically it is a PD in GTi-16V Bi-Turbo ... :D :D ... with little different beam.

The light is really bright on high, regular PD on low and the craftsmanship is incredible.

I have the Ti XR-19 PD Mizer version; it has a larger corona and and is "lower" on low than my "bare" PD with T binned Luxeon. The brightness seems nearly the same on high but illuminates better ( at 20 feet due to the larger corona). Tint is much warmer; and am curious how it compares to a PD-S? (tint and flood)?

Usual McGizmo workmanship, trit in piston, very nice. Smooth twsity action for a Ti light and I like the more fluted head.

You really cant go wrong with any combo. I like em all. The PD 27-S is awesome but so is the Ti 27S-C. The XR19PD and C are both sweet.

I guess what I'm trying to say, my favorite combo seems to change daily.

The funny thing is, the plain 'ol black HA Mizer PD-S has found its way into my pocket everyday since I got it...

The Ti 27-S, wether PD or C, gets into the pocket when i get home. Walking the dogs and just plain tinkerin outside at night. The XR-19, wether PD or C, gets a lil uses every now and then. I have found that when I am using the XR-19 in the PD form factor, that low and high are very close together. In other words its easy to push the piston and go straight to high. When twisted onto high, its easy to untwist and turn it off, I have to do it slow to get to low. This isnt a problem b/c I usually use the C-pack on the XR-19 head.

Well, PSM, at least your sticking to one at a time. I've been carrying my TiPD, XR19-C, and 27LT-S all with me since I've had them. I simply can't make up my mind!

None are perfect, but, taken together, they're darn close!

I have both the Ti XR19 and S27 with interchangable C-pack and PD pack. Right now my daily carry is the Ti-XR19PD. I love the XR19 head and feel it is the best beam that Don has released in Ti. I like my S27 Ti on the C-pack, it just feels more at home here and the light seems like it wants to be outside most, but being winter here, it has not been able to have its due diligence. My S27 has mizer option so I am glad to leave it on as long as I wish, I know it will just keep on trucking.

One thing I opted for that most would sneer at, is that I sansed the H3 on the PD pack. Ever since my first PD when the H3 was not even an option, I just loved the clean look and pure machine like character. It really looks more like a piece of jewelry and much better in my opinion, but don't get me wrong, I love the H3 too, but having it on my Ti PD is letting me sleep soundly.
After Don releases that little piece of *** he is cooking up, I will have the best lights in the world. I might just retire.

LOL, I just removed my Trit today from one of my PD's piston, milled the slot bigger, and put a bigger BLUE trit in there with Norland 61.

I did this to tell the difference between my Mizer PD-S and my Non-Mizer PD-S. :nana:

Don, a quick question about my XR-19 Ti PD that arrived today: I noticed that I can rotate the piston pretty easily with just modest thumb pressure against it, but the piston on my McLux III Ti PD can't be rotated and is in a fixed position. Any reason for the difference?

Charlesn,
It is probably a combination of spring tension and resistance of the piston against the sleeve and screws and stop lip in the sleeve as well as sticktion of the lube itself.

What, no, "Oh my, what a perfect light I behold?"

You just got the best light in the world!
