I ordered a zebra h60 along with a spear and 2 batteries with one charger. The spear accepts the 18650 just fine. The zebra is tight as hell and if I push the battery in it will never come out. What gives? Why is the zebra so flippin tight? The batteries came as a package deal with the spear so I thought I was covered for the two lights. They sent tenergy batteries with the spear.

That's good to know. I just ordered a H60 myself. I also have Tenergy Batteries Coming. I will let you know if I have the same problem. We may need to break out some sand paper.:aaa:

I quit posting on the forums a while back and will continue my absence save the following concerns surrounding a very simple safety issue that should've really been brought forward from day one.

Both my Tenergy 18650 protected cells are now ripped beyond any reasonable person's notion of safe use. I took great care initially to inspect the tube (even slightly Nano-lubed it) and to make certain that the battery would slip back out again before it was dropped in.

I don't blame Zebralight or even 4Sevens (although I am out 2 cells at full price...couldn't wait for American retail delivery) yet would like to remind everybody of this thread and several others like it in the CPF archives: http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=199438

And if you do the spring mod for AW's protected cells?...make certain that the cut off end does not dig into the bottom surface.

What a fantastic little light this has turned out to be for everyday all purpose lighting needs.

All my batteries fits in the tube, it's not the width that is the problem for me, it's the battery lenght. I use Ultrafire grey, Trustfire blue/grey and AW's, all protected.
The H60 is clearly made for unprotected cells.

Rzr800, if you cut the spring, just bend the tip down.
I have much less "spring marks" on the batteries after the "mod" than before.

Hi

Thanks for the info. and spring fix method.

I have Ultrafire and they fit (but not for length)
AW Blacks fit both ways and I shall use unprotected or AW for now as I don't want to do the spring fix straight from the box !

Thats it. The width is no problem with any of my 18650 (3 different types, two of the each) though, the lenght of the tube is a very tight fit. It requires some effort to screw the cap on.
I think thats perfeclty okay, as long as the spring doesnt destroy my betteries and it did not do so in the few weeks i own my zebralight.
Everything is ok.

I would never advocate sticking an unprotected 18650 on your forehead, nor would I suggest using 2x16340/CR123's.

The advantage of the single cell configuration is that it is not prone to the reverse charging issues you would face if you have used batteries with capacity or charge level differences. However, using unprotected 18650 batteries would still leave you open to over discharge and short circuit, neither of which would be a good thing for a light carried in such a way. While the circuitry in the light may protect from low voltage, it would be fundamentally unable to protect from all possible modes of short circuit.

I have a couple H50s and a couple H30s, but stopped short of the H60 due to a distrust of a battery of that capacity and potential volatility being stored on my head. Why?

A flashlight carried in your hand gets noticed if it suddenly starts to get hot. One carried on your forehead but isolated via a silicone holder can progress significantly far down the pathway to thermal runaway before it gets noticed. Perhaps too far.

That said, anything more than a spring mod is likely to be putting you at unnecessary risk.

I dont see any reason for the h60 beeing more dangerous than the other zebrlaights. They are all single cell lamps and thats good like it is for the obvious security reasons. I dont think, that the larger capacity makes a big difference.
The most secure is probably using the h50 with alkalins/NiMHs though the extra power and lower weight you get with protected Li-cells is worth to me the added (low) risk.

I just got my H 60 in the mail today. The protected tenergy 18650's fit fine lengthwise. However the OD is a little big and the battery fit snugly. I had to shake the H 60 hard to get the battery out. I think a little fine sanding of the body may help. Other wise I love this flashlight/headlamp.

Just got the "NEW" AW18650 battery. It fits fine. The OD and length are perfect. Its not too long as described by others. All 3 modes work fine. Its the perfect battery for this light. Tenergy on the other hand are junk.

Mine dont .........so what? I dont see the point in posting the "mine works" threads. With tenergy there is a problem with AW there is not. Buyer beware.
