I have been looking at some of the "right-angle" torches and was wondering if they were worth trying (clipped onto a belt or similar) to give hands-free operation ... I do not really want to go to a headband with a torch attatched ... I prefer a torch-shaped torch if you get what I mean ... The headband types seem to look like a camera and lens (or similar).

The ones that I have found so far are :-

Fireworm H1 (Q5)
Zebralight H30 (Q5)
Zebralight H31 (XP-G)
Ultrafire UF-H2 (Q5)

Some have three modes and others (more expensive) have continuously variable including very low (one lumen or less).

Has anyone used these torches ? ... The only right-angle torch that I have used was when I was on guard in 1957 , so there must be an improvement by now !

I will have another (better) search on CPF for any more information.

Many Thanks.

I think we can help find you something a little better than what you had in '57. :)

Seriously the Zebralights are fantastic and the difference between the H31 and the H30 besides brightness is the H31 uses a reflector which gives it more throw. The H30 is great for up close task like reading, working and the H31 is better for seeing down range.

The H30 is a flood light and the H31 is a more general beam with a wide hotspot but still plenty of spill to see your surroundings.

SunwayLED makes a right-angle light, no experience with it, Fenix MC-10 should also be looked at.

I have a zebralight h501w and love it. its my favorite light.:D i usually have it clipped in my front chest/shirt pocket, for hands-free, and quick access.

i definitely would say try them out

just got an H31 and was using it on the trail in MT Lassen Natnl park-
SLAMMIN!

really good trail light and the low low is so good for reading that
you dont notice the hot spot.

good stuff!!

I even like the UI tho I usually prefer 1 or 3 mode lights

I have Fireworm H1.
I cannot compare it with others, cause I only have H1, but it's pretty good and useful light in my opinion.

Titanium construction feels solid.
It has two modes, each mode is programmable in continuous brightness change set up. A kind of Jetbeam I.B.S.

No reflector, so no spot beam, but like McGizmo Mule kind of beam.
Very useful in near field tasks. :twothumbs
