Re: How much would you pay for a power failure?

I had a power failure today during school. Unfortunately, it was during the day and I was in a room with an entire wall of windows...

In response to your question, I don't think I would pay anything to have a power failure on my command. IMHO it's a lot more fun when it's a surprise. Just when you think it's been a bad day...BAM!...power off!

It's one thing to joke about it in a forum posting, but your posts sounds a bit too real for comfort.

Just to play the devil's advocate here, please do be aware that power outages cause major inconvenience to a lot of people, will cause injuries and/or property damage to some, and may cost some people their lives due to the failure of alternative power sources for medical equipment.

There are plenty of opportunities to play with flashlights without having power failures. These opportunities may exist in darkened buildings anytime of day, outdoors after sunset, in caves during hikes, or just shut yourself into a darkened room. There's no need to hope for catastrophic events, but when those do occur, your skills and flashlights should be available to help those who are unable to help themselves, no so that you can play with flashlights.

Sorry if this sounds a bit grumpy.

I've been seriously thinking about what a power failure would be worth to me if I just could call someone and say "Now!" and everything would go black. CIA and SÄPO (Swedish CIA) might put me one their death-list for this but compared to the socioeconomic costs, a power failure can't be that expensive to buy if you know the right people.

I would just love to be in the middle of the city with my friends and all our flashlights and preferably a camcorder too and just make that call. God damn it would be fun!

What would you pay for a power failure in your town?

:huh2: I'm sorry but this sounds like a really irresponsible thing to do.

Edit: ...and Brighteyez beat me to it. Do you realize the implications of what you're saying? :shakehead:

Relax! It's just one of those "what if"-thoughts.

It could just as well be limited to street lights. It would have the same effect.

I think what he's really asking is, how much do you like power failures, when they do happen...

Re: How much would you pay for a power failure?

it happened to Mut and I at shot show. We were eating in restaurant at Terrible's Hotel. when the power when completely dead!

of course I whup out my Mclux ti and never missed a beat. the chef that was making me an omlet could see due to me light. otherwise it was completely DARK!

After a few minutes, emergency backup lights came on. meanwhile in the other room, Mut turned on his light and kept on eating like nothing happened.

this power outage happpened in a large hotel and casino. turns out the construction crews knocked out the power. which stayed off for several hours.

that's my story and I'm sticking to it...

I'll pay to not be there, imagine a bunch of panicking people in the dark looking for ways out, and there you are Mr Gadgets with a light. Just be thankful if they don't kick the crap out of you before they take your lights away...

Re: How much would you pay for a power failure?

Might I suggest a more constructive train of thought?
Like maybe something along the lines of what you would/could do in the event of a power outage? If you have the skills and training, could you help others or provide aid to those who might be injured; if not, could you acquire those skills? Or perhaps it could be something as simple as helping evacuate people out of a building where the power has been lost (without becoming a victim yourself.)

And (sorry, if this sounds like gloom and doom, and always looking at the dark side), but if streets go into darkness due to a power failure, you'll want to use flashlights carefully so that they don't endanger drivers who may be navigating only with their headlights. (and if people drive like they do in California, you'll just want to get off of the street! :) ).

Re: How much would you pay for a power failure?

Hmm... I'd suspect that there might be a problem with the emergency power backup at the Terrible Herbst property on the Strip? The backup power is suppose to kick in pretty quick, like within seconds (maybe it actually did) rather than minutes, and there should be battery powered emergency lights (you've probably got them at work as well) that should kick on as soon as the power is lost.) Generally, there should be generators that will provide backup power almost immediately when the power is interupted, just like the back up systems that they have for hospitals. and many business facilities

But I love that part about lighting up the chef's working area so that he could finish cooking your breakfast :).

Re: How much would you pay for a power failure?

I've moved crowds of people out of buildings for a number of various reasons including fire alarms, power outages, etc. Not a big thing and people are often more than willing to help each other. Don't believe all that hate crap that some of those groups like to spread.
