What is up with the rediculously prolific use of smilies in posts? The use of one, maybe two, doesn't bother me; those little wal-mart dudes are supposed to be used to communicate subtleties and nuance in writing that is lost when we can't use facial expression and tone of voice. That's great when they are used correctly.

Then I come across the occasional post that looks like this:
:awman::huh2::naughty::rock::rock::poke::toilet::xyxgun::crazy::sleepy:
:buddies::aaa::buddies::devil::nana::popcorn::huh::mad::sssh::scowl:

OK, so what exactly are they trying to say?? There is so much motion on the screen sometimes it makes me seasick.

Then there is the post that goes like this:ohgeez:
and then this:rant:
and then this:laughing::whistle:
this:naughty:
and this:ironic:

That's a doozie too.

I guess all I can say is

:wtf:

Sorry. I've only overused smilies in a post once, and that was the reply to the "Happy Days" drain backup thread. I don't know why I did it, I thought it was kind of silly and would inject a bit of lightheartedness into a "messy" thread.

No smilies in this post, do you like it?

I think it has something to do with the consumption of Flashahol, you know, that stuff you smell when you pull a used CR123 out of a light. Rots the brain.

:buddies:

I figured it might have something to do with spending too much time at Wal-mart milling around the flashlight aisle. It's easy to develop an affinity for the round yellow dude that way. However, I think your explanation is much better!

I always wondered what that smell was......

Hey! I post a lot of smileys :)

So I wanted to post something like this...
ar15.gif
It's candlepowerforums.com not fascist.com

Smileys are cute and make me laugh

So you can keep worrying
crybaby.gif
how people like to post or take one one these chill pills

and talk about something interesting.

BUT instead,

I always have my browser set to only let animations cycle once. Others who find them a bit on the busy side might try that.

If I ever use a smiley that doesn't seem to make sense it's probably because I've chosen it just on the basis of what the last frame looks like. :D
