Best rechargeable battery combo for SF L4

Does anyone know what the best or second best combo/type of rechargeable battery(s) is for the SF L4? I've had a Pila 600s on order forever, and I'm beginning to give up on them. What else would work well in the L4 without blowing it up, and where is the best place to get it?

Thanks

I use a protected 17670 cell and charger from AW down in the dealers thread. The 17670 is the same size as the 600s Here

Thanks Buba, what is the run time and is the light as bright as with regular batteries?

The run-time with the 17670 is an hour and it is fully regulated
brightness for that hour - the same as with 2 CR123's

I'd love to hear from folks who use the Aleph 1x17500 power pack with an L4. That seems like a nice compromise length with better run-time than a RCR123...but maybe a guy would be better off jsut to use a 17670...

Thanks guys, it looks like I'm going to be ordering a 17670 for my L4. Is AW the best place to get it from? Also, does anyone else have any other ideas for the L4?

Thanks again

I'm using Pila 168S in mine. Or a 3.7 Volt rechargeble in an E1e body.

Good 17670's will outperform 2 rechargeable 123's any day. I choose Panasonic Li-Ions since they've never failed me, while the no-name ones (including Pilas) have given me several duds. I'm reluctant to try anything else.

I have been using Pila 168s batteries in my L4. I have some new AW protected 17670's on the way and they should work very well too.
Use protected batteries if you have the choice.

Use Pila 600s or 17670's.

I got my Pila's from JSBurly and my 17670's from AW. Both sell these batteries in the "sell" thread of this forum.

The 17670's with charger from AW are less expensive than the Pila version.

I want to second what others have posted by saying that I too use 1 protected 17670 rechargeable. I should also like to note two differences in what I am doing versus the L4: 1) I use a 2x123 Aleph body; and 2) an Aleph 2-stage tailcap. The tailcap has a 15 ohm resistor that allows me to run my KL4 head at high and low. On low I get over 20 hours with with the 17670.

Although they are no longer made, the Aleph 2-stage tailcaps might still be available at the Sandwich Shoppe, as well as the bodies.

With this setup, I get a 2-stage L4 equivalent for slightly less money.

Regards.

I second (or third) the rec. for AW's protected 17670s. I've used mine for some time in my 2-stage L4 without a hitch. And AW is a superb vendor.

Didn't know the 2-stage tailcaps are no longer being made---when did that stop happening?

Ps: I used to live in Austin some 2 1/2 years ago.

zehnmm,

Thanks for the link. Sad news indeed.

(BTW, Austin is still a nice place, but getting too BIG for me....and the traffic has gotten even worse. Hope to be out in the country before too very long.)
