This is my SE 5 Watter. I used the 3CN2D mod to power a DC/DC converter to drive this 5W White Luxeon right at 700ma. Didn't want to burn up the first one!

Here's a beam shot of it against the Cyclops 1W SE mod. The camera makes it look a lot greener than it really is, and doesn't capture the brighter corona too well. But even so, the 1W SE keeps pretty close in output, just with fewer photons.

This shot better shows the 5W advantage; more light ouput!

Better stop playing with this and start making some Cyclops mods..........

The 5W SE is awesome. The 1W SE is also very impressive. I just got my order of 1W SE today, so I'll have mine up shortly. I got 10 of 'em!

Is it fair to compare the 1 watt so highly overdriven, but the 5W at specs. How about pumping up the 5W?

How many hours will the 5W run on the 3 C cells?

Hi Wayne,

I'm only guessing at about 90 minutes on 3C cells. I've not really kept track, been too busy just playing with it. Eventually I'll get that measured, and how it works on 2D cells too.

Things are getting better every day!

Just got home early from work. The Cyclops I turned on last night at 6:30 PM still measures over 1000 Lux at 1:00 PM; that's 18.5 hours running from over 4500 Lux to just over 1000 Lux now.

nice to see some direct 5W to 1W comparisons. perhaps using wattage as a reference would be better, instead of mA. surprising how well the 1W emiiter does, considering the voltage would be close to half the 5W, right? i would have thought there would be a more drastic difference.

Lambda,

Would 6V, 2@123, burn out the 1W side emitter in a Legent LX in your oinion. Or have you tried it? yes, direct drive.

I think it's a little high. What's resister value you used in your Legent LX long time ago if you still remember.

Keep up the good work. We are lucky to have you here constantely inspiring us. Thanks.

Lambda,

I can't get over the one side shot of the lights! It looks like white fire! It's nice to know the subjects of the photo

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I just set the light next to the wall, lean it a little so half the beam is 'eaten' by the wall. The combination of textured plaster and camera saturation make for a mean looking beam.

Lambda,
How much phosphor is on the 5 W LS LED die? The 5W looks less blue/white in color. You are SO lucky! That 5W really puts out some light! I can't wait to get my hands on one of them later this year.
