It's a great light that has a large warm spot and very good sidespill. It takes rechargeable RCR123's (Batteryspace.com has 3.0v & 3.6v RCR123's and the 3.0v version works very well while the 3.6v tends to run hot).
I used mine for quite awhile until I bought my Surefire U2, since I needed a flashlight that has a brighter spot and adjustable levels.
If you want to light up a large area for what you are doing I will say you bought the right light...I really like my TL-3 LED.
