I run Gentoo and Slackware... but I'd recommend you try mplayer, vlc, or xine. Your best bet is mplayer, but xine is good too. You may also need to install extra codecs (win32codecs) for mplayer. As far as I know, WM9 is not supported on Linux at all.

Mplayer is what I'm tying. Downloaded codecs but nogo. Might take a look at VLC.
