Re: FS: SF Z58/Z59 (U2 etc) Custom Tailguard

-FAQ-

Which Light Can This Tailguard Be Used With?
The tailguards are a replacement for the stock retaining ring in the Z58(HA Nat)/59(HA Black) clicky tailcap.

I am not totaly familiar with the vast lineup of Surefire lights and accesories, and will just say that
they can be used on the switch which comes with the Digital Lumamax U2.
If any of you can confirm other compatible tailcaps, I will update info.

What Does It Do
The TG is a replacement for the stock retaining ring, and will extend the ridges of the tailcap
to protect the rubber boot.

It will enable 'candle mode', prevent the switch from accidental activiation, and protect the switch
innards from tail-end drops on hard surfaces (to some extent).
Crenelations were added for easier access, but activating the switch will become more difficult
than the stock condition
.

Fellow CPFer Leef is working on another solution incorporating the McClicky switch here.
INTEREST THREAD: LeefClicky-C tailcaps

Will My Light Still Be Waterproof?
'Waterproofness' *should* be the same as stock parts as long as you fit the washer (which comes
with the stock part) correctly.
Please remember that you will void any gurantees from Surefire by dissasembling the switch
or using third party parts.
This tailguard is a custom part being offered by an amateur hobbyist. Please use at your own risk!!

How Do You Install It?
- Heat the switch to loosen the thread locker on the retaining ring by using either of the following methods.
Seal in a small Ziploc bag and boil in hot water for a few minutes, or use a heatgun.
Avoid aiming directly at the rubber boot.

- Grip in a beltwrench or vise, fit a pair of needle nose/snap ring pliers in the small holes to twist
the retaining ring CCW.
Be careful and use slow/steady pressure to turn. The tool can slip easily and scratch the HA finish.

Another useful tool would be an adjustable watch wrench. You can find them on eBay.
Search watch wrench.

Remove the thin washer from the stock part and fit it onto the tailcap.
Reassemblw the switch and screw the TG on tightly.

I Scattered The Switch Parts. In What Order Do I Put Them Back Together?
See Pic Above

I'm Afraid The TG Will Become Loose. How Can I Secure It?
Use a drop of super glue or Loctite on the threads.
Shrink tube is another option if you do not mind aesthetics.

Are There Plans To Do A Run In HA Natural?
No, sorry.

Please post questions in the thread, it would be better if everone can share the info.

Nice tailguard nekomane...

I looks like the 'racking marks' will be hidden when the switch boot is installed.

My switch fell into pieces also, upon disassembly...I thought it was a defect, must be normal for this switch.
