I have a L1S. It's worked ok for about a year, but lately it can't quite decide whether it wants to stay in full or reduced power mode, so it keeps flickering between them.
Slightly tightening or releasing the head seems to have an effect, but nothing stable.
I cleaned the contacts, it seemed to make things better but it went back to flickering the next day.
I'm kinda puzzled... what could it be?

I am not familiar with L1S but what you suffer seems to me like a case of presence of oxidation somewhere. In addition to cleaning I suggest you rub lightly an eraser on the live contacts and then take carefully away the rubber debris.

Make sure you're not forgetting to clean the end of the battery tube, where it touches the contact in the head.

Yep, what he said. And get yourself some DeoxIt. Great stuff. It has cured every light I had flickering problems with.
