What's your favorite 14500 light?

I'm new to this battery and wonder what your fave lights are that can use it without burning up. Thanks.

Heard about this one recently. The Jetbeam Jet-I Mk II R announced in this thread will officially run the 14500 (see posts 33 & 37). They "claim" 180 lumens at 750ma drive. Yeah it's a rebel 100.

I like the LiteFlux LF5. It runs great on a 14500 and it has an overdischarge mode built in to protect your batteries. That allows you to use the higher capacity unprotected cells. I believe it runs at about 750ma draw with a 14500. If you switch to regular AAs, the current pull drops to 350ma.

The LM301 will run on 14500's on high mode, but the low mode has a runtime issue. Take a look at Selfbuilts review for some data:

My personal fav is the Dexlight X.1, the thing is a rocket on 14500's... but it heats up like crazy and only lasts about 30 minutes on high.

For overall performance, the Rexlight 2.1 is one of the best in terms of output vs runtime, and no PWM flicker. The Liteflux also looks like a pretty good balance when using rechargeables, but doesn't do so well with alkaline.

The new Jetbeam looks interesting, but I heard they delayed it and decided not to use Rebel anymore.

If the LiteFlux LF5 has an overdischarge feature, how could it work with regular AAs that are below the cutoff voltage for L-Ion?

Currently, the Jetbeam MKII since I still dont have the MKII Q4. Can I ask you guys a question? Have you tried the 14500 on a fenix L1D R80 or the L1T R80 or R100?

Apparently, the light "senses" if it's a NIMH/Alki or a LiOn, and adjusts accordingly.

Which actually makes sense. If your LiOn is down around 1.5v, you're in trouble. So if the voltage is 1.5v, must be an alki.... 1.2v, must be a nimh - then it sets the overdischarge accordingly.

Yep. It's nicely bright, but you lose all the low modes until the cell drops to around 3.0v... which is time to recharge it.

What are your thoughts on the Rexlight 2.1? I read it's beam wasn't quite as smooth as the 2.0. Also, I like the idea that it has a low low. But is it really that low? Hoping so. . .

yup! you are right. i do not think there are any lights in the market that has this feature.

According to ceiling bounce test, it gives much more light than my 2AA Minim@g + Terralux TLE-5EX with Seoul, and about same as M@g 4D + Terralux TLE-6EX with Seoul. The David 19 draws about 1 amp from 14500 when fully charged.

Kai claims the new build 001 corrects the reflector focus. Don't have one to test, though.

Low on alkaline on Rex2.1 is lowest of all the lights in my review, except LF5. I've just started a runtime for that one - but since its lowest output is ~0.3 on my scale (Rex 2.1 is ~2), I expect we are looking at weeks of runtime.

Rex 2.1 is great on 14500, but low output is now ~7 on my scale, which is about the same as DX X.1. LF5 on 14500 is ~0.6 on my scale, so that's your best bet for a true low on 14500.

Nope, its AA sized rechargeable and nominal voltage is 3.6 volts, althought it can be over 4 volts right after charger.

The 14500 is the 3,7V Li-Ion (LIR) rechargeable version of the 1,5V AA alkaline primary.

14500 => 14 for 14mm thickness, 50 for 50mm length and 0 for round cell.
