Opened up my new MX 3-Cree light today.

Here is a photo of the components, including the GLASS lens on right. The Head is heavy and should handle the heat load.

I also checked the amps to the 3 Crees. It was .58 amps on high with charged cr123s (slight underdrive). On low it was .22 amps.

Beam pattern was good at 100 yards. Some artifacts at 15 feet.

I've changed the Cree's out with 3W UV Crees for high-power UV.

What do you think about it? I have this too and I was not impressed with the threads, reflector, the fact it doesn't start up in last function used, or its inability to accept 18650s.
I do like the look and size of it though.

Did you check the current(amperage) at the tailcap? If so that doesn't sound too bad. 4 x 3.7 = 14.8v the LED's in series need ~10.5v with the excess voltage being converted to current(amperage) you should see ~ 750ma at the emmiters. Each emmiter should have a Vf of ~ 3.5v and 750 ma of current for a total power consumption of 2.625watts per LED(2.65w x 3 =7.875w total power). 14.8 x .58(current at tailcap) =8.584w x .9(converter efficency) = 7.73w.

Steve;

The 3-Watt UV Crees have a higher forward voltage.

They are typically 3.9 to 4 Volts @ 700ma.

This gives you 2.8 Watts @ 4 Volts.

Do you have other lights you can compare the brightness to?
