JimmyM
Flashlight Enthusiast
Currently Sold Out.
I'd like to announce the sale of the JM-SST (JimmyM's Soft-Starter with Trim).
This is a 30mm round PCB that fits under the KIU switch base in a D body Mag. It uses PWM to rapidly switch on and off until it reaches it's set point. THIS IS NOT A REGULATOR. It simply ramps the duty cycle of the PWM to a fixed set point. It also has a trim pot on board to limit the maximum duty cycle. Duty cycle is the percentage of time that the PWM output is on. 50% duty means that for every 1 second of operation, the output is switched on for only 0.5 seconds.
The trim pot range allows for a 50% to 100% maximum duty cycle adjustment.
Full clockwise is a gentle start to 50%. If you turn it counter-clockwise about 2/3s of the way you get a gentle start to 100% duty cycle. Full counter-clockwise is a rapid start to 100% duty cycle.
This can be used with pack voltages from 9V to 40V. You cannot exceed 40V at any point.

Page 4 has the results from Lux Luthor's testing. It was tested using paralleled 64623 bulbs, ultimately handling over 20 Amps and 340 Watts. It's quite sturdy.
