Hello, Forum ! Is there a drop-in LED for the old " L " shaped green
lights from the Army Navy Stores ?? Or an easy conversion ??
Or is it not worth the trouble ?

Thanks for Your Thoughts !!!

Check with ElectroLumens. They sell the already converted GI lights, and I'd imagine you could buy just the parts necessary if you ask.

Are you talking about the MX-991/U with the colored filters, spare bulb, etc? It literally is an inexpensive flashlight with some O-rings. I tried a Nite-Ize 2-4 C/D drop-in - it is very voltage sensitive, reportedly working better on 3-4 cells. It really has a flat, and dim, beam, with a miniscule spot. The 2 cell LED MagLite drop-in won't work without modification due to the negative contact. That light is best focused, a la the MagLite, and produces a larger and seemingly brighter spot than the original incandescent bulb - with a wide diffused light similar to the Nite-Ize. I will keep mine as it is, with the wimpy Nite Ize - and the red filter at the ready - for star parties (Astronomical loonie gatherings... at 'dark sky', as if they still existed, areas - with telescopes.).

At least the Nite-Ize is cheap - ~$6 closeout at Target - ~$8.48 @ Wally World.

Here ya go:

Pick one out that's optimized for 2 cells. Since the housing is plastic (can't get rid of heat buildup), I recommend going with long runtime over pure brightness. I recommend picking up a handful of these:

They aren't the brightest, but they are a welcome upgrade for all those old PR-2 lights you have lying around the house. They will be brighter than the stock incan PR-2 bulbs they are replacing.

I put an EverLED in mine. They're pretty expensive at $40, but there are also other luxeon I LED drop-ins available at half the price. Do a little looking around. They aren't going to wow you, but they can bring new life into an old light.
