Help a Noob find a sweet mag

hey guys,

I am looking for a maglite converted to led. I want the best bang for the buck, something over 600 lumens or so, and still with a decent run time. 4d is probally the biggest size i would go in body size.

whats my best bet?

Check the above thread.

Remember lots of output doesn't always equal lots of throw(if you wanted throw).

For that output, there's the TLE-300, Malkoff Universal drop-in(well, it gets close to 600 lumen), and the Elektrolumens P7 drop-in.

How much runtime?

looking for at least 45 minutes, and with throw somewhere near my deree dbs. does that help to narrow my choices down?

Are there battery cartridges i can use to use different batteries for those drop ins mentioned above, or can i use standard d or c cells.

Well, for that kind of throw, either look at a single emitter drop-in, the Malkoffdevices would be the best (though it would still throw less then the DBS) or an aspheric mod. More LEDs might have more output but it will have less throw doe to the smaller reflectors.

If it says 2-3D cells, then use 2 or 3 D cells, most of them have what battery to use in the descriptions.

Agreed. I suggest contacting darkzero for P7 upgrades.
