I have a 3 AA flashlight using a 1 watt Luxeon. Current is limited by only a resistor so I'm not worried about the Vf of the LEDs. I can get the XR-Es on the same sized star. I thought I read somewhere that there are issues with the reflector and the difference in the LED. Is this the case?
Switch out Luxeon for Cree?

An SSC P4 is generally the acceptable swap to replace a Lux I or Lux III and have it still work with the same reflector.
