Yes you can but they have to be 3.0v RCRs not 3.7v so no AWs . I got some of the BatteryJunction 3v ones and they worked fine.

My E1b used only 1 Surefire primary.
I purchased the 3V Li-on rechargeables, but my E1B would flicker.
From what I have read here. For some the 3V rechargeables work while for others it doesn't.
