For a couple of my custom flashlights, I needed a battery holder for three 18650 cells. Having taken inspiration from turboferret and modamag, here is what I came up with. The material is black Acetal (e.g. Delrin) which started as 2" round rod. It was first turned down to the needed diameter on a lathe and then carved on my Taig CNC mill. Hope this inspires you to head for the shop also.
About an hour to mill out the rough shape (the Taig is not that speedy):
After milling some recesses and holes/grooves for the clip tabs:
After soldering in some wire and grinding off excess tab/solder:
After using CA adhesive to attach some single-sided copper clad PCB and soldering 3rd tab:
A little black silicon on the backside helps hold the clips, but the soldered tabs provide a lot of support. The end result, 3 cells in series:
