Got this P7 monster the other day, actually it is a replacement unit, since the first I got had problems with the driver, the manufacturer send me a new one without any trouble, overall got very good customer support from the manufacture!

Many of you older CandlePower forum users, probably know the VB-16 UI, it is very simple two button UI, one for turning the brightness up, and another to turn the brightness off. It cannot get simpler then that, and this VB-16 P7 got the same system, running 2x18650 or 4x123A batteries, plus the ability to use strobe by tapping the tailcap I believe within 1 second. The modes are memorized when the flashlight is turned off.

Build quality is very good, nice firm threads, and fit and finish is excellent, you got a great grip with the knurling, and the tailcap got a "groove" so you got a good grip when using the flashlight. Design is a matter of taste, looks a little dull IMO. The tailcap is designed with antiroll in mind, and does work pretty well.

The two up/down brightness buttons is GID kind, and is very easy to use, kind of stiff and not quite, but that is OK, you are not in any doubt if you have pressed the buttons or not. The flashlight got a very nice and soft forward clicky, that also it very quite personally something I like allot, and I believe it is the same kind found in other VB-16 flashlights.

Reflector is made from aluminum and is MOP kind I think, and the heatsink is of some kind of brass, to maximize cooling from the LED, below the head the is some fines to again maximize the cooling, overall the flashlight does get hot on max after a few minutes, but not too bad, and never experienced it to be uncomfortably hot when using the flashlight. The lens is real glass, but does not appear to have anti reflective coating, or at least not on both sides.

Now lets get on with the beamshots, all flashlights use RCR Li-ion batteries, I only use AW batteries, and the VB-16 runs of 2x18650, distance is about 3m:

Lux readings running 2x18650:

Overall Output:

High 2x18650 = 30.000 Lux
Low 2x18650 = 298 Lux

Throw from 1m:

High 2x18650 = 15.680 Lux
Low 2x18650 = 152 Lux

Thats all for now, maybe I will do runtime and some outdoor beamshots later, or post your request, question and so on and I will answer ASAP :).

My last VB-16 plastic switch cracked and fell off after minimal usage and impossible to replace. I don't support this type of switch system no matter how good the light is.

Have been using this flashlight as my primary light now for more than a week.

Must say I really like it, the UI works very well, and man this thing is bright. Only downside it would be nice to have a switch below the head, like on mag c/d lights, but it is a matter of getting used to, and one hand operation is fine.

Like the soft switch though, and even though it is not the best looking flashlight out there, it is very functional. Tailstand is not possible, but would probably also be kind of unstable, and a pocket clip could come in handy two.

But overall it just works very well, been very stable, and just so darn bright. Wanted to make som outdoor beamshots, but just so cold now, so don't think so right now, maybe later :).

nice review, i would really like to see some shots of the light being used outdoors. It looks like it could throw really well.

Thanks for the review. Looking on KD, the MCE version is actually less expensive than the P7... not sure why.

So how is your light holding up so far?

Is it still working and up to you expectations?

How often have you used it?

Im worried it will stop working (like so many other HK lights.)

Can you measure current on high at the tailcap with a fresh 4.2v charge?

Thanks.
