So of the lights in your collection which ones sport the worst inductor whine?

I only hear this in 3 of my lights rated from worst...

1. QMini AA on Lo(very light) and Mid(loud and distracting)
2. Fenix L1Tv2 on high.
3. Fenix TK20 on high.

What other lights really make a noise?

LF5XT - whines when very bright settings are in use (checked only 14500 cell, I don't know how it behaves with NiMH)

SF A2 with FM Strion kit - whines a bit when the bulb is on, both on IMRs and normal batteries.

Loudest whiner I ever owned was the Arc6. Second loudest, by a long shot, the Surefire L2 on low.

My Nailbender SST-50 3 mode regulated drop in whines loudly but only in the medium setting. Fortunately, I always use either low or high amd his products are so exceptional that I am MORE than willing to overlook the noise. None of my other lights nor drop ins whine loudly enough or in a frequency low enough for me to notice. I suspect some my whine at a frequency so high that a child may hear it and I may not.

I wonder why flashlights would whine at the highest setting? I would think that there would be no PWM so no whining?

My girlfriends Jetbeam RRT-3 has a good bit of whine on max. I have to admit though, I actually think the inductor whine is pretty cool.
I hope my RRT3 doesn't whine. I exchanged my m2s for it because of whine I could hear into the next room.

only light that I have/had whine from was the M2S jetbeam

Hey, why am I not included on your list? Oh wait...I only whine about one subject, the Golden State Warriors! :green:

My worst whining *flashlights* are:

1. Terralux TLE-300M-EX Maglite drop in, when in low mode. Whines a little in medium mode and not at all when in high mode.
2. Sunforce 2996 HID spotlight.
3. Fenix TK20, but only *sometimes* when in high mode. It often doesn't whine when in high mode though and it never ever whines at all in low mode.

None of my other lights whine at all and, thankfully, neither does my girlfriend. :)

The only light that I know has such a noise is my itp A3.

I only know this from when I put it in my mouth I hear and feel the PMW on my teeth. If I press it against my ear I can hear it as well.

My time as a combat artillery soldier took its toll on my hearing.

I am curious...now I am going to have to test all my lights by pressing them to my ear

No doubt: LF2XT.

I have six and all of them have an annoying whine.
But I love them... so I can live with that.

Both of mine whine on high, but only when pressed to your ear. The ones I exchanged you could hear at arm's length or across a room. Luckily my local supply store let me open up a few and choose the one that whined the least.

D10
Only sometimes, seems random. Usually goes away if I shut it off or jump modes a bit.

Worst is our Yorkshire Terrier at the unearthly hour of 0800hrs ... I'm retired and shouldn't be awake at that time ... It's almost night-time ... He should have had an extra long Pee the night before.

Second worst is my Wife , if I don't hear the dog ... She (the wife) is not a morning person till much later ... I really mean much , much later.

Third worst is my Wife , if I put too much milk in her tea in the morning when she eventually comes downstairs ... She only has very weak tea and I tell her that the milk actually makes it darker.

Fourth worst is my Wife when I tell her about the milk ... See third worst for more details.

Fifth worst is my Wife when I explain to her that she has never worked and has only stayed at home having children.

Sixth worst is my Wife after I come home after a Friday night out with the boys ... I realise that it is late , but a man has his needs.

Seventh worst is my Wife 'cos on a Friday night the boys all go to an Indian restaurant afterwards for a hot curry and another few beers ... I mean after the few beers not after "a mans needs".

Eighth worst is my Wife on a Saturday morning when she finds a trail of my clothing stretching from the front door to the bedside ... Usually via the bathroom ... Can't understand this 'cos all she has to do is pick them up and put them in the laundry basket.

Ninth worst is my Wife when she mentions the toilet seat being left up ... I go more than she does , so I should get the vote on this.

Tenth worst is my Wife , for no particular reason.

p.s. When you get to my age (72) you actually wish you could hear your torch whine ! ... That would at least be a different sort of whine !

p.p.s. When I say "Wife" , I include all of them (mine) ... I suppose that it is part of the make-up of a Wife ... Strangely , girlfriends aren't like this till they become Wives ... I think that the tollerance gene is programmed to alter after marriage.

Must be the Wife 'cos I've never changed.
