I just got a cheap 3XAA flashlight that I really like, but it is direct driven. I want to put in a multi-mode driver that can take the voltage from alkalines and nimh's. I figured some people have already done this so what do you guys suggest?

Thanks,

Dan

What kind of emitter you driving? Also please specify what current level you want to drive the emitter at.

I put in an XR-E R2. I'd like it to be as bright as possible on high, but have lower modes for longer battery life.

TorchBoy maintains a very comprehensive list of driver boards. There is a good thread on the CPF forums on the subject. Here it is https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/188227

I would limit the max current to your emitter to about 1.0 amp. KD and DX both offer drivers that will fit the bill but you will have to wait 3-4 weeks for delivery. Happy Mods!
