New batteries for old Mag85

I want to revive my old Mag85:

3D host
AWR Hotdriver - I actually ordered and received it a long time ago...:duck:
3d->9AA battery holder
LiON cells
kiu socket
tenergy charger

Will 26650's in a tube be a drop in solution? Is there a better battery solution for more runtime? IIRC the AWR hot driver has a soft start so full capacity batteries are not a problem?

There are few possibilities to increase run time while keeping 3D length.
1- Assuming driver can take the extra voltage, quad bore body to fit 12AA in series.
2- Use 3 protected 18650 (3100) with proper size tube to center batteries. Some tail cap mode is requred.
3- Use 3 IMR 26650 with proper size tube to center batteries. Some tail cap mode is requred.
