I recently saw a Scene of Crime Officer in the UK using an incredibly bright hand held lantern to examine blood stains.

From waist height, the lantern projected a totally white beam that had no hot spots of about 500mm onto the floor.

What sort of equipment could this have been?

I heard that some MET Officers use a rather fragile, heavy spotlight that comes in two sizes. I believe it's black and rather ugly.

If it's SOCO, they may be using "scientific" kit that produced a known beam colour temperature or something.

Is it a production TV show with planned out scenes? If so, it could have been a prop light made just for the scene with a cable running up the actor's arm to the mains behind him.
