I apologize in advance for this noob question. After searching I wasn't able to find a specific answer.

I bought a MagLite 4D LED 3 years ago.

Will a TerraLUX TLE-6EX MiniStar5 140 Lumens Extreme LED fit as a replacement? Also will I see any increase in output? Everything I read talks about changing a MagLite incan to a LED. I can't find much comparing stock Maglite LEDs to the TerraLUX drop ins.

here is the TerraLUX drop in:

Also,
is there any sort of Flashlight "guide" for noobies? I have read the FAQs and I still am unfamiliar with so many terms used in these forums.

thanks in advance!

I am not familiar with Mag model numbers.

The 1st generation of MagLEDs come with an LED bulb up front and an incan. backup bulb in the tailcap. If you have that model you can upgrade.

The 2nd and 3rd generations do not have the incan. bulb in the tailcap. You can not upgrade those.

The 1st gen MagLED is ~60 OTF lumens.
The Terralux is 140 LED lumens or 90 OTF lumens. (Mag's optics are pretty poor)
The latest MagLEDs are rated at 131 OTF lumens.

It may not be worth it to get 50% improvement. Wait for the new MagLEDs to go on sale. You missed black friday but there will be other sales.
