Hey Guys,

This is my first post on this forum so i hope i chose the god sub-forum to post this question.

I'm working as a captain on a tugboat in the harbor of Antwerp, and i'm searching for a compact flashlight that can stand up to my 10.000.000cp halogen flashlight (100watt bulb) that i now use.

Picture : http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/51/20130323110836.jpg

I've seached for a couple of hours yesterday and watched allot of videos also, and i have found the Nitecore TM26.
But what i really want to know is if the TM26 has the same or more output then the halogen light.....

Can someone help me with this question?

Thank in advance !

Kind Regards
Ben

It's possible, though beam profile will be different. I don't know how bright your searchlight is for sure, but it may be pumping out anywhere from 1100 lumens to 3000 lumens (if it was hid it could be more)
Due to the large reflector it still may out throw the tm26, but you won't see as much around where your pointing.
Could you take a picture of how the beam looks at thirty feet on a white wall ? If you have a good camera, set it to a 1 sec shutter speed

This will out-throw the TM26. The question is, what are you after? Do you want more flood within 100 metres? Do you need to see things well at 300-400 metres? Knowing what you want the light to achieve can help people advise the best option. Being your a boat Captain it sounds like you need both distance and flood, but sometimes not together? The Olight X6 may be a good choice for a mix of both. The new Fenix RC40 could be perfect as it's as bright as the TM26 but throws much further.

My first thought was that you need to get in on the group buy on the FF4. But it's a HID light and will probably be a mind blowing light because it will be around 6000L and be similar to maybe(probably) more lux than your '10M' spotlight. But it will be in the $300 range and need 4 good Lithium cells and it's not out yet. But as far as LED lights go, I think you need to take a look at the One Stop Throw Shop. com lights. When the original DEFT came out boaters really liked it's lack of blinding spill. I have 2 of those lights and they are fantastic. I purchased one of his modified TN31s and it had 2x the lux of the DEFT. If you are looking to get the worlds best the DeftX at omglumens . com. But you'll prob have to wait at least a couple months till they get into full production.

Welcome Ben!

Short answer is TM26 is 3500L and 40K lux throw (more lumens, less throw). The spot light is about 2200L and around 750+k lux throw (fewer lumens, more throw). The performance of the spotlight will vary greatly with the age and quality of the SLA battery.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the answers !

I have looked at the suggestions you guys made and i think the RC40 is the best replacement so far.
I also like it because it has a build in battery. I don't like to mess around with seperate batteries so much :)

Plug it in, charge, and done. That's what i'm looking for.

Alltough it's quite a size bigger then the TM26, i still think it's the best choice because it has more throw.

But the problem is ...... i can't find a store on the internet that is located in Europe ....

Hey Thijs !

Bedankt voor de link :)

In English : Thanks for the link.

I also see that some of you mention HID flashlights for an option.
Are these ALLOT brighter then the led-versions?

I am a huge led fan since my entire house is equiped with led spots and led floodlights (10w version - 50watt version), also have led panels in my hallway. There is not 1 light on/in my house that has a regular incandescent fitted.
I also used to sell HID conversion kits, so i know it's bright, but i don't know how bright it is compared the a top-end LED flashlight because i have never ssen one one those.
My car has HID low-beams, HID high beams and HID foglights :)

A video of the led floodlights in my house can be found here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIkfFxlnHvc&hd=1

The most important thing for me on a flashlight is :

- Maximal throw with some spill to see whats going on on the ground in front of you.
- Adjustable power-levels
- Build in battery-pack that is rechargeable within the unit.
- Good battery-life on lower power outputs.

Thanks again ! :)

So what if you compare the RC40 to let's say a Polarion PH50 .......

I know it's more then 4 times so expensive, but is it also 4 times as bright?

Well not 4 times, but the PH50 will be brighter ;)

But not worth spending 4 times as much if i understand correct :)

*edit*

Just found a comparision with the FF3 and te PH50 ....

The FF3 is almost as bright (maybe even brighter) then the PH50 .......

So maybe it's a good thing to wait for the FF4 to come out ......

*edit2*

So what is the difference between the ebay HID flashlights and a FF3 or FF4?

This one for example : http://www.benl.ebay.be/itm/HID-XEN...36?pt=Stirn_Taschenlampen&hash=item1c2107e7e8

*edit3*

And what about the FF4 compared to the RC40?
FF4 brighter then R40?

pro's?
cons?

No but it's about 4 times the throw.

Based on what you were going to use the light for, I'm guessing the RC40 would work great, especially if you're using it momentarily.

HIDs have several drawbacks:
start up time
no low mode
are fragile compared to led

I vote for Fenix RC40. Olight X6 is probably cumbersome with separate battery pack.

HID lights:
http://www.knivesandtools.nl/nl/ct/polarion-hid-lampen.htm

Yes the RC40 outperform the MT26 with ease on: candela output AND trow AND runtime.

MT26:
Trow: 415 meter
Candela: 43.000 CD

RC40:
Trow: 710 meter
Candela: 126.000 CD

Then there is the price difference?
MT26 including 4x 18650 (Panasonic made 3400mAh) 450 euro.
RC40 price? 370 dollar, but what will be the price in euro?

Price - performance , i would recommend a Fenix TK75. Only 180 euro
And its has more candela and trow then a MT26:
Trow: 606 meter
Candela: 92.000 CD
