Hand held SF LM2 from a SF 618

Hey gents have a few questions regarding a possible SF lego project. I recently bought a SF 618 weapons light set up and have since converted it to a single cell Malkoff driver. My question is this, can I make the Lm2 into a standalone unit and if so should I use an extention or buy a new body? Also not sure which tail cap fits the LM2. Would this be worth doing or should I just list it for sale so somebody could upgrade their existing non LED SF fore end. Any input or advice is greatly appreciated.
