The symptom is that no matter which batteries I use, clicking the on button causes the LED to flash slightly, but not come on.
The battery holder, even though it's the old type that sucks, is still working okay with a good voltage between live parts. The tailcap is brand new thanks to Fenixs' awesome customer service (free replacement!) and worked for a few weeks.
Using battery clips I can bypass the tail switch anyway and apply 5V ish to the head and get the same flash, but not come on.
