New guy here. Been lurking around the forums for a few years and decided to join up. Anyways, I have a very old Streamlight Tasklight 2L that has recently bit the dust. I also had a XM-L2 U2 LED sitting around as well. Doing a few quick number crunching, I figured I could get at least about double the light output with the same driver. This light originally had around 120 lumens from a "Lumileds" LED. It was pretty straight forward to get the thing apart and throw in the new LED. Also made sure to put some thermal compound behind it as well just in case. Pretty happy to see this light back in action and also about double the amount of light than before. For those interested, I got the LED for just under $10 at http://www.ebay.com/itm/201081234658. The driver doesn't look like it would be too bad to replace in the future if I ever get around to it. Some pictures: (Streamlight has some what fresh C123A batteries, and the TN12 has a freshly charged 18650 in it).

It wasn't too bad. The little aluminum ring was on pretty tight and only needed some vice grips to help get off. Was thinking about changing the LED driver, but didn't have the parts and/or the time to do it right now. Even with the same driver, the improvements were pretty noticeable. Even though it was a simple mod, there are tons of others in this section that really show it up haha!
