Do I need a buck/boost driver?

Hello, I was wondering if I'd need a buck/boost driver for this dropin. I want to crank it up to 3A but I can't tell if the LEDs are driven in series, in which case I can just get a standard 17mm driver like this. I assume yes but I'd like confirmation since it was an expensive drop in (at least to me).

Each LED is 3.7-4.2V (but the 3x LED runs fine with that voltage) and can take up to 1.2A. Though they came shipped to me running at 300ma.

Here is the LED I'm working with.

Here's my attempt to photograph the LED in better detail if that helps.

Okay, I'm not the best modder, but wanted to say something since you've had almost 200 looks but no responses.

I've no idea what that LED is, but if you say each LED (I'm assuming in a triple configuration) can take 1.2 amps, then you're good. It is the most common format to run multiple LEDs, especially when they are on the same board in Parallel.

If you want to run over 1 amp to each, you of course need more than 3 amps in. That driver that you show "only" puts out 2.8 amps - not enough. I suggest you look at Mountain Electronics, and look up the "my favorite driver" in 17mm. It starts out as 3.04 amps, and you can add 2 more 7135 chips to up the output voltage to 3.75 amps, which is just a smidge over max for each LED in parallel. I'm not sure if there is some voltage drop in the system (tailcap spring, etc.) that would drop the mathematical figures.
You can just add 1 chip to be 3.39 amps if you want to play it safe.

A buck/boost driver driver is only necessary if the voltage of your batteries is higher than the Vf of your led at turn on and lower at turn off. Or likewise if you want to run different battery combinations like sometimes a single 18650 and other times two 18350's.

What batteries are you running?

Not sure how or what but be careful by clicking on the first link (the word 'this'). I did and seconds later my antivirus program detected some kind of a virus...

Dxsoul.com appears to be a safe website but it didn't open any website when I clicked the link. It looked like it was trying to download or install something on my PC.
