Fenix E15 Direct Drive...Keychain super thrower at 12.5K lux & NOW 1000 Lumen Mule

I been wanting a keychain throw light for years. I saw the Fenix E15 CR123 twisty and loved the tight beam the stock Optic provides. Ringy = YES, but negligible outdoors.

Build thread via ventureofblood's help of course.....
  • XPE2 on 16mm copper board
  • 6500K tint
  • Dedomed
  • Direct Drive
  • resistor to keep current at 1.7A
  • IMR 16340

What you get is a very thin CR123 Keychain Twistie at 60mm long is very very short and the 12.5K lux is just utterly amazing for a light of this size and bezel is 20mm & Stock Optic is 15mm diameter.

Diameter of IMR 18650 vs. this Keychain light...Feels like you have an 18650 cell in hand..

Beamshots?

I just have Iphone 6 at the moment and it doesn't do beamshots any justice. It does look identical to Surefire L1 Optic with XRE though, so not pretty but a lot of throw.

I am actually putting an XPG2 in it now. I was so excited to see how well the XPE2 did, that I couldn't resist trying an XPG2 and later an XML2 to see which emitter in DD I like best.

Then an XP-L and an XHP70

The XPL yes, but that's on another similar and smaller IMR 16340 keychain light....yes, smaller.

I will have 2 keychain lights at the end. The throw one and the flood one.

This is my other Keychain Light.

Its a Foursevens ATOM CR123 that was simply switched to XML2 cool and Direct Drive off IMR 16340.

4A~3A 1000 Lumen monster unfortunately creates a lot of heat and has very little runtime. Its more of a show off light, but still useful for short burst. It does fit great in the pockets since its almost identical to my AW 17500's just look at it next to one. I however keychain carry this beast too.

Check how its identical to an AW 17500 protected cell. There is an IMR 16340 inside the Atom too.

I'm curious that you say your E15 is ringy. Mine isn't, not a ring in sight.

Love this light though.

Love this light though.

It got ringy on the outside corona with XPE2 de-domed.

I have an XPG2 cool in it at the moment and the beam is floody but utter perfection. So, I will keep it this way for now. Its DD and only 2A, so very good for a IMR 16340 cell.

Very similar looks and size to my Nitecore SENS CR. Like the fact that it takes IMR,,,,,,,,,,,Just like a lot of Vinh modded lights!

What is your take on the IMREN IMR 16340? They are relatively new battery company. Do you have any of there other IMR's?

thanks,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Capolini

I have purchased Imren IMR 32650's and now their IMR 16340's and I have to say they are ok. I think the IMR AW 16340's still produce the best amps for DD builds. If you don't have a DD build than the IMren's are good.

^^^ AW is a good battery. I have a few IMR 18350/16340. Although I have found that AWT IMR to be the best as far "voltage curve" and run time combo with Efest IMR having a decent voltage curve but less run time. Both at a very reasonable price. HKJ's comparator is very helpful! ;)

Re: Fenix E15 Direct Drive...Keychain super thrower at 12.5K lux

I do now! I knew it was tiny but never checked out the dimensions.

,,and the E15- 59.6mm/2 11/32" (Length) X 19.7mm (Diameter),,,and the Nitecore SENS MINI- 57mm/2.24" length are even smaller! My NITECORE SENS CR is 64mm/2.52" length,,ALL Three shorter than an "Unprotected 18650!

There are a few other tiny lights even smaller,,,The DQG SPY IS 27mm/ 1 1/16" high!, takes a 10180 battery.

bigchelis Forgive me for going on a tiny light research binge!

EDIT: Atom is listed at 46.7mm/1.84" I am NOT sure what that black battery is but its NOT an 18650,maybe a 14500?

That would be my next build for sure. The ATOM Mule or now they come with reflectors too. The design is incredibly simple and easy to DD since they have limited parts and 16mm boards and drivers fit good.
