problem with tk16

Hi All.
I've been using a tk16 for a few months now, but lately it won't turn on unless the tail cap is loosened considerably. Obviously this will impact the waterproofness so I would like to be able ot use it with the cap screwed down tight again.
Any ideas?

Retainer ring, inside the tailcap which holds the switch, fully tightened?

not sure about a retainer ring but this seems pretty secure.

yeah, that a different design than they normally used.

I've tried cleaning all the contacts with no improvement.
