The color of the beams from seconds have slight tint variations ranging from very white to slight yellow or slight green. Does the tint give any indication of LED current draw? What actually causes tint variations?

the tint does not give any indication of the LED current draw.

to understand what causes tint variations, you first have to understand how white LEDs work. white LEDs are essentially blue LEDs with a yellow phospher coating that absorbs some of the blue light emitted, and re-emits roughly twice the amount of yellow light in total, so the ratio of blue to yellow light is 1:2.

if the coat of phospher is too thin, too little yellow light gets emitted, hence the white light emitted takes on a blue or violet tint. consequently if the coat of phospher is too thick, too much yellow light gets emitted, resulting in white light with a yellow or green tint. at least that's how i understand it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
