I gave away my Fenix E05 to a friend of mine so I need to replace it.

i am looking for something the same length or shorter in either aluminum or stainless steel.

Prefer a twisty and it must start off on low. I would like it if it had low, medium, and high but low and high is fine.

im not interested in any sos or strobe modes.

I would like to keep it about $40.00 or less.

As always, my suggestion is over your budget. But it wouldn't do any harm to look at a Peak Eiger, it does eveything you are looking for and it's built like a brick outhouse.

Ive had them before. I think it is longer than the Fenix and it's also only one mode unless I get the QTC version which I do not like at all.

Maybe look into the D.Q.G. aaa lights? I got one that was available in Stainless Steel and Titanium. I'm very happy with my Ti, had it for 7 years now and going strong. Uses aaa and the more expensive models can also use 10440 lithiums for more lumens on the high mode. It starts on low and is a twisty.

UPDATE: I stand corrected. I just tested mine and it will toggle between the two modes until you let it sit for a few minutes, THEN it loses mode memory and starts on low.

Sounds like the Thrunite Ti3 is exactly what you're looking for.

Always starts at the lowest level.
Levels are ordered from lowest to highest.
Levels are 0.04L, 12L, and 120L.

$14 - $17 depending on where you buy it.

You may be surprised how useful the 0.04L level is. Or maybe you already know. Good stuff!

Is there some reason that another E05 is not on the table?

Seems obvious to me.

Just bored of it and want to try something new.

I understand now but you didn't mention that at first.

The ET D25aaa has been a terrific light for me and competes directly with the E05 but can be had in a 219B emitter too!
Add to that the hidden blinky modes, magnet and mostly good clip and it is a contender I think.

That one looks really cool. Do you know if the clip is removable?

The reason I ask is because it will be permanently attached to my key ring in a pouch, and with all the other stuff on the ring it would add to much bulk.

I had one of the d25aaa absolutely fantastic. I cut the clip off of mine with a dremel in about 2.5 seconds
