To get in-stock count

This is just my observation. If you put a hugh number (like 100) into the qty field, hit the update qty, it will adjust the number to a more reasonable number. It would seems like this is the number of lights in stock (or at least planned to produce). For example, I see 47 AAA and 17AA last night left.

Does this make sense to anyone else?

That is just how many back orders we are willing to accept, not how many units are in stock. The yahoo webstore doesn't do exactly everything we want it to. That is why we say on the page before you get to the shopping cart that your item will be back ordered. In fact, there are at least 5 back order notices spread out on our website.
