Hello.... and Luxeons for my truck

Hey all. I just found this site this afternoon. This is like heaven on earth!!

Here are some things I have been wanting to do with my truck:

Red luxeon emitters in my taillights. Are these Luxeon star emitters bright enough to shine through the red lens of my tail lights? Say one in the middle for tailight and one above and below it for the brake/signal? I would like to do the same thing for my front parking lights too. Sound feasable? I would just have to drop the voltage down from 13.8 to 4, right?

Also, I would like to put some Blue Luxeon Star Emitters in the center of the Whelen lightbar on the roof.

What is a source to buy just the emitter from?

Thanks,
Matt

Can you say, \"Durian\"?
Welcome to the CPF, FireRanger!

The current Luxeons are certainly bright enough to shine thru your taillight lenses, and the reds in particular are very bright. Just ask Aragorn.

When the 5-watt luxeons become readily available, I'd be surprised if anyone wanted to stick to incandescent lighting for automotive applications.

If you'd like to buy them, try:

Arc Flashlight: http://store.yahoo.com/flashlight/barluxstarle.html

Mark Hannah: http://www.nwlink.com/%7Emhannah1/leds.htm

or, as a last resort, from Future Active: http://www.future-active.com/results.asp?hidPageName=0&ddCountry=US&ddCurrency=USD&SearchType=StartsWith&txtSearch=lxhl

Hope this helps. If you do fit out your truck, please post pix!

So ARC only sells the white ones I assume? I guess behind the regular lens of front and rear lights, that would do fine.

Try emailing Peter Gransee, who runs Arc, and see if he can sell you any of the other colors. The Arc-LS is available in other colors apart from white, so Peter may have some blues/reds Luxeons around. Peter is really really helpful.

OK. Is there a problem with Future Active? You said as a last resort, but they seem to have everything I need (red, amber, and blue).

Future Active is a very large components distributor, and from what I've seen around the CPF, sometimes can't really give the small buyer that much attention.

There's really no harm trying, but I am sure that both Peter and Mark Hannah will take good care of your order if you're buying from them - and that's from personal experience. If you read up of some of the earlier posts, you'll see what I mean.

You're free to choose, of course - but I'll bet that the more satisfying experience will come from dealing with Peter Gransee or Mark Hannah. So many CPFers can't be wrong.
