Would adding a soft start switch prevent some instaflashes? I want to run a WA1274 with 7AA. The bulb's life is rated 6.3hrs at 8.4V. I wonder if fully charged batteries may pop this bulb pushing it this hard. Has anyone instaflashed a 1274 w/7AA NiMH?

Can anyone say for sure that a soft start switch would prevent some instaflashes? It seems logical that it should as long as the final voltage is near the operating range for the bulb. The inrush current is especially hard on bulbs that are near the point of burn-out.

The 1274 on 7AA nimh is a beauty to behold. I haven't popped one yet. Of course I haven't turned it on right after coming off the charger either.

I'm all ears about a soft start switch...

I've seen a couple of soft start circuits over the net and the 2 simpliest that I've found are these:
