Dorcy Solid State flashlight at Walmart ... $8.00 (same as Turtlelight I.

Very easy to convert to a Luxeon Star led by cutting out the lamp side of the reflector to just accomodate the Luxeon, then removing the side contact from the lamp holder and cutting down pr2 size socket so that the Luxeon board will fit under the two retaining arms of the lamp holder (notch the Luxeon board to fit). Wire in the Luxeon in series with a 10 ohm 1/2 watt resistor.
Current draw with the 6 volt power source is approx. 250 ma. ... Very bright.

That's a good idea.
I tried the same thing with a Dorcy mini-lantern which uses 4aa's and a PR based incandescent. It was $3.99 at Walmart.
It looks like R2D2:

I used 3 aa's, shorted out one battery holder, and used a 5 ohm resistor and it draws about 250 ma. About the same as your project. I agree, this is really bright for an LED. It's a good work light, as it can swivel 360 degrees up and down.
