I never tried it but I think someone posted that when they tried heating up the .5W 2AAA, it melted the reflector before the head let go.

Why mess with water? Hold the body horizontally and slowly rotate while heating with a lighter. My .5 opened after only a few seconds. Maybe I was lucky and some lights are overloaded with "locktite".
