Does anyone know if it is possible to cram 2+2 18650 Li-ions in a mag2D?
Will it be a tight fit?

that's an interesting idea.. i have a bored out mag that has 3x17500x 2 stacks or 6
it takes a bit of boring to fit 2 18mm diameter but also can't fit the length of 65mmx2 in a 2D.. need a 2 1/2D.

Yeah the idea intrigues me too,
I dont have a Mag2D here, but i belive 2 18650`s can fit in there with minor adjustments to the spring.

Making 2+2 fit in there would be awsome.
I have thought about buying the 2-1/2 MagD that Fivemega has,but i want the light to be as small as possible.
I am going to use the host for a Quad setup running 2+2 TXOK`s DD.

The Mag 2-1/2C is also a great host but hard to come by :(

We need smaller batteries with more juice :naughty:

Two 18650's won't fit side by side in an unmodified Mag. It is possible however to accommodate the 2 XX650's lengthwise...only just. I made a pack, since pulled apart for batteries and yet to be re-built, for my MRX which had 2 X 2 17650's in a standard Mag 2D. You need to push the spring into the Mag tail cap recess to tuck it out of the way, but it works a treat. Scratching of the anodizing as the spring is pushed into the tail cap should eliminate the need to remove the anodizing, but removal of anodizing is preferred.

you can fit 2x18650s into a 2C light by removing the tailcap anodizing inside and putting something conductive below.. i use a rubber foot (like the stick-on keep things from sliding on the desk type) with metal band wrapped around it... 2x17670s are too long by about 2mm.. i fashioned a ring of copper to fit between the body and tailcap and it works.

I think we need to get our bud, FiveMega to make a run of 2-bore 2D or 2 1/2D lights because manoman is a 2x2 18650 the bomb for powering pretty much anything.. i have some really neat plans for hotwire lights that use them.

For me a 2+2 18650 Mag2D would be perfect,it maintains the small size and packs a hell of a battery time.
The 2 1/2D is to big for me and there are too many batteries to charge.

We just need to get him to do a run of these :)
Maybe with similar fins on the head and body like the 2-1/2C he had a while back.

Ya hear Fivemega!
Is this possible?

FiveMega already have the 3x2 17670 2 1/2D Mag. What would the advantage of a 2x2 18650 2 1/2D Mag be?

Sigbjoern

that's actually a pretty good question.

3x2 17670 is 34.56 WH
2x2 18650 is about 31.67 WH (actually less.. but that was with 2.2AH.. i've heard rumors of 2.4AH cells).

considering power output: 1.6Ax3 = 4.8A = 1C vs well with 2.4AH cells the 18650s would also be 1C.

however.. there is one very good reason besides that the 17670 solution takes 50% more batteries and 100% more battery holders:

with FOUR you can use series to get 14.4V.. there are somre really exciting options at 14.4V.. stay tuned on the hotwires forum. 14.4V at 1.5C (3A) is smokin' power and opens up some neat possibilities.

We will sure see 17670 cells with higher capacity as well, so I think it is a little unfair to compare with future yet unavailable cells. Is the 2.4AH cells protected cells from AW? Any clue when they will be available?

I see the point with having fewer cells, and it is a very good argument. I will sure get one or two if Fivemega decides to make them.

yes me too,im sure they will be a great hit!
but im kinda uncertain if the 2+2 18650`s will fit lenghtwise.

Maybe someone can try with 2x18650`s to see if they are too long.

2x2 18650 would require a 2 1/2D body.. 2x1 fit in a 2C though because it will go up inside the tailcap.. tough to do that side-by-side ;) I should point out that 2x2 17670 will fit no problem in an un-bored D mag.. so a holder that holds 4x17670 will work in a 3D mag w/o modification.. not as much capacity but still exciting possibilites because it'd be cheap and easy ... with 7.2V solution it would be a cake walk to make a battery adapter to get the power out.. a little tricker but not difficult to make a 14.4V solution.

I was actually considering 4 saphion 18650s in series for a super-bright incan mod but due to my short attention span (look -- a birdie!!) I lost interest...

The Saphion cells have lower voltage than normal Li-Ions so you will get a MPV=12.0V when running Osram 100W bulbs and a MPV=12.5V when running Osram 50W bulbs. Runtime should be 7 to 8 minutes with 100W bulbs.
